Or, so we might be led to believe, based upon comments coming from several prominent Democrats recently, especially those running to become President of the United States.
Senator Hillary Clinton recently stated, "No one can read the New Testament of our Bible without recognizing that Jesus had a lot more to say about how we treat the poor than most of the issues that were talked about in this election."
A funny claim for sure since it has been shown that conservatives, the very members of the “Vast Right Winged Conspiracy” she professes is out to get here, donates and contributes more to the poor than do the Liberal followers she panders to.
In January 2005, Clinton said, “Research shows that the primary reason that teenage girls abstain is because of their religious and moral values. We should embrace this--and support programs that reinforce the idea that abstinence at a young age is not just the smart thing to do, it is the right thing to do.” She continues with, “We should use all the resources at our disposal to ensure that teens are getting the information they need to make the right decision.”
After talking a little more about parents and teens preventing unwanted pregnancy, she then says, “I have long been a strong supporter of Title X, the only federal program devoted solely to making comprehensive family planning services available to anyone interested in seeking them.” In the same speech, Clinton adds, “But we should also recognize what works and what doesn't work, and to be fair, the jury is still out on the effectiveness of abstinence-only programs.”
Allow me to say, Senator, that not having sex is a very effective method of preventing unwanted pregnancy.
Clinton has voted 100% of the time with pro-abortion NARAL and 0% of the time with the National Right to Life Committee. Perhaps, the Senator has missed portions of her own Bible that she doesn’t quote. Psalm 139:13 For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them. (NKJV)
In ancient Biblical Law, it was laid out clearly what was to happen if an unborn was harmed. Exodus 21: 22 “If men fight, and hurt a woman with child, so that she gives birth prematurely, yet no harm follows, he shall surely be punished accordingly as the woman’s husband imposes on him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. 23 But if any harm follows, then you shall give life for life, (NKJV)
We are no longer under ancient Biblical Law, though. So what of the New Testament? 1 Timothy 5:8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. (NKJV)
Are we “providing for our own” by sucking the life we create out of the womb and disposing of it as we would a piece of trash?
Ms. Clinton says that the “the jury is still out on effectiveness of abstinence only programs.” Yet, the Bible she proudly flashes about in her campaigning says, Acts 15:19 Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God, 20 but that we write to them to abstain from things polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from things strangled, and from blood. (NKJV)
Even though several have tried and several have claimed it not to be true, no one has ever proved any portion of the Bible wrong. Clearly, to me, abortion for birth control is not a Biblically sanctioned procedure.
In addressing her belief on the accuracy of the Bible, Clinton once said, "The whole Bible gives you a glimpse of God and God's desire for a personal relationship, but we can't possibly understand every way God is communicating with us. I've always felt that people who try to shoehorn in their cultural and social understandings of the time into the Bible might be actually missing the larger point."
Ms. Clinton is also to have said she “believed in the resurrection of Jesus, though she described herself as less sure of the doctrine that being a Christian is the only way to salvation." The Bible, however, says at John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (NKJV)
So far I have focused on Hillary, the presumed front-runner and most likely nominee for the Democrats nod for 2008. Lest you think it is only her, I previously addressed Nancy Pelosi’s Prayers. However, Queen Pelosi isn’t running for President, but two others are.
First term Senator Barack Obama claims, “My Muslim Ties Are a Strength.” In Blasting the Christian Right and claiming they had “hijacked” faith, Obama also says, “We can affirm our faith without endangering the separation of church and state, as long as we understand that when we’re in the public square, we have to speak in universal terms that everyone can understand.”
The Bible says, Acts 18:9 Now the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision, “Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent; 10 for I am with you, and no one will attack you to hurt you; for I have many people in this city.” (NKJV) We are also told, James 2:14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. (NKJV)
Obama has also launched his People of Faith website. He is credited with very recently proclaiming, “"We're going to keep on praising together. I am confident that we can create a Kingdom right here on Earth."
Yes, Senator, but just who’s Kingdom?
Senator Obama claims membership in the Trinity United Church of Christ, Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. In a recent interview appearing in Germany’s Spiegel Online, Rev. Wright is quoted as saying “Right now, the average American or the average German or the average Brit couldn't tell you the difference between a Sunni and a Shiite. I mean, you got Christians who lynch people in the name of Jesus, and you got Muslims who fly planes into buildings. But you got some Muslims who don't do that. You got some Christians who ain't got time to lynch people.”
He also stated, “Far right radical conservative Christians want to put prayer back in the school. Now my family may start off the day in prayer, and I'm going to teach my daughters and my sons how to pray. But I'm not going to force your kids to pray like my kids.”
With all due respect, Reverend Wright, when I was younger and they still had prayer in school, no one was “forced to recite” the prayer. We had Jewish students, Jehovah’s Witness Students and several others in my school in South Florida. For those who did not prefer to recite the more generic “Lord’s Prayer,” they usually stepped out in the loggia or stood respectfully and did not participate. No one cared, no one was forced, and no one was castigated for not reciting the prayer with us.
And, while we are at it, just where are Christians “lynching people” in the name of Jesus? The days of the Ku Klux Klan doing that are long gone, those persons now either dead or incarcerated for the crimes.
With comments as these, it is little wonder that some consider Reverend Wright to be racially divisive.
Obama claims membership in his church now for about two decades and has recently said, "But somehow, somewhere along the way, faith stopped being used to bring us together and started being used to drive us apart. It got hijacked. Part of it is because the so-called leaders of the Christian right are all too eager to exploit what divides us."
Seeing the disparity in his comments, the New York Sun’s Kenneth Blackwell recently wrote, “[Obama’s] views on a whole range of social issues are incompatible with traditional Christian doctrine adhered to by millions of persons today.
Evidently every ordained Christian minister must submit to a liberal interpretation of the Bible to avoid being labeled an exploiting hijacker of religion.”
Perhaps Senator Obama missed Jesus’ words at Matthew 10:34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; 36 and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’ 37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. 39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it. (NKJV) Maybe, it is just a case of his words, "I don't know what Bible they're reading. But it didn't jibe with my version."
We now turn our attention to the Democrat candidate who, with his soft North Carolina drawl, perfectly coiffed hairdo and boyish charm, might easily pass for at least a Televangelist. That he too is always hawking for donations just adds to that mystique. Of course, we are talking about John Edwards, more affectionately known as “the Breck Girl.”
In June of 2007, Edwards was quoted as saying, “Christ would be “appalled” at the selfishness of Americans and the willingness to go to war when it’s not necessary.” Besides the obvious of we have been under attack by radical Jihadists from an oppressive sect of Islam, necessitating war with these villainous beasts that would fly occupied aircraft into occupied buildings and blow themselves and those around them up in suicide bombings, who is Mr. Edwards to mention “selfishness?”
John Edwards resides in a 28,200-square-foot home sitting on 102 acres of land in Orange County, North Carolina. I do not begrudge the Edwards’s of their prosperity or the ability to own such a domicile. I do begrudge the fact that I, with my paltry 1100 square foot home sitting on a postage stamp lot, less that 1/8 of an acre, is considered “selfish” by Edwards.
My guess is that Edwards was either fixing his hair, or dreaming of channeling deceased children in front of juries when as a child, his Sunday School teacher read from the Bible at Matthew 19:16 Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?” Jesus replied at verse 21 Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” 22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. 23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” (NKJV)
As I have already shown above, studies have discovered that for all the hype and bemoaning from Liberals about caring for the poor, it is Conservatives who most often do the most and donate the most for them.
Our Liberal Democrat candidates all make a good show of talking about helping the poor on the backs of the wealthy, but never forget, every last single one of these candidates and many of their larger supporters are very wealthy themselves and take full advantage of any and all tax breaks due them. Yes, doing so is legal and proper, but it should give one cause to consider why they call for us to do more, when we are already doing more and they desperately hang on to their own wealth.
With all of the front runners suddenly embracing religion, Christianity, all of a sudden, and counseling us for not doing enough for others, perhaps they should blow the dust off of their own Bibles, or have a staffer read it to them and read 2 Timothy 3:1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
I will leave you with one last Democrat who, although not a candidate this time around, did run for President in 2004 and is currently the Democrat National Committee Chairman, Howard Dean, former Governor of the State of Vermont. In his failed 2004 campaign he was quoted as saying, “"If you know much about the Bible, which I do," answered a reporters query as to what is his favorite New Testament Book was, “The book of Job, but I don't like the way it ends. Some would argue, you know, in some of the books of the New Testament, the ending of the Book of Job is different. I think, if I'm not mistaken, there's one book where there's a more optimistic ending, which we believe was tacked on later."
Governor Dean, I hope you fired the staffer who wrote that for you. The Book of Job is in the Old Testament. *
* In all fairness, Governor Dean corrected his little gaffe a few hours later, admitting that the Book of Job is indeed in the Old Testament after all.
